Beautiful Fall Day and a Project

It was a beautiful Fall weekend with temperatures in the low 70's both days. It was the perfect weekend to work outside. The leaves are almost all off the trees, so there was a lot of leaf clean up going on. I also cleaned up some of my flower beds. I leave some over winter for the birds and other wildlife but clean up some so that it isn't so much work in the Spring. I just don't have the energy I used to, so do what I can when I have some ambition. Usually my weekends off are cruddy so this was a welcome change.

I've also been working on this project for a while now and finally finished the top. It will become a pillow. The pattern was a freebie from Primitive Gatherings Quilt shop during their Christmas open house last year. Every year they have a wonderful open house at the shop and give away free patterns when you spend a certain amount. I'm looking forward to seeing what will be offered this year. 

 This year is flying by and soon the weather will turn colder. I am not looking forward to the cold and snow but am looking forward to being indoors more and working on some of my projects. I just don't seem to get much done when the outdoors is calling. Have a wonderful week!

Little Getaway

Hubby and I spent a few days in the North woods of Wisconsin enjoying the colors of Fall. It was a nice little getaway for both of us. We get away so little-always working or working on the house and decided it was time to get away and do nothing. We stayed at a little cabin tucked in the woods with a river close by. Spent our days just driving around and enjoying the beautiful fall colors.

Alas, it ended too soon and we go back to work tomorrow but it was nice while it lasted. It will probably be the last time for a while. We made some nice memories.

Apples, Apples, Apples

So, my hubby stopped by his brother's house for a quick visit and came home with a bucket of apples from his tree. Since yesterday was my day off and the weather was cool, I decided it was the perfect day to do something with them. I got out my handy dandy Pampered Chef apple peeler and got to work. I made quick work of those big, beautiful apples.

This is pan number one of the scraps. I ended up with 3 of these pans of goodies for the wildlife that roams around our little patch of heaven on earth. Took a little trip around the pond to drop these in the back for whomever comes to visit and wants a little snack. I'm sure the deer have already found them.😀

Made the hubby a nice apple crisp with some of the apples. It is delicious. We sampled it last night with a side of vanilla ice cream. Yummy!!

Had enough extra to freeze for pies. Not sure how these will turn out as I have never frozen apples before but found a few pins on Pinterest that said to just prep them and add a little lemon juice so that is what I'm trying. 

My work schedule changed this morning, so off to figure out what to make for dinner for the hubs tonight since I am now closing the store.

Relaxing Day

Spent the day with the hubby today. It was a nice relaxing day for both of us. We hit up a couple of little flea markets and went to one of my favorite vintage shops. We had fun searching for new goodies and found the items below. I added to my bowl and masher collection and he added to his vintage smoker houses. The old blue insulators will go in the garden as little flowers. I will post photos of how I use them another day. Top photo is my vintage masher collection that lives in my kitchen.

 Came home and worked in the garden for a while before the mosquitos found me. Had a nice dinner of mashed potatoes, marinated and grilled pork roast, and creamy cucumber salad. Now it's time to find a movie to watch and enjoy the cool evening air.

Bounty from the garden

Picked the pan full of veggies from my garden yesterday after work and since today was my day off, I decided I should probably take care of some of them. Spent the day cutting, chopping, and cooking. Ended up with 21 jars of salsa. We eat a lot of salsa at our house and I give salsa as little gifts to coworkers at Christmas time.Still have to clean up my kitchen, but taking a needed break to check out some blogs. This girl is wishing for a new wood burning stove for Christmas. It's kind of hard to miss this big hole in the wall. Off to try to make it a little prettier. I'll let you know what I come up with.

Well the Weather Outside is Frightful

 

We're getting rain today and it's really foggy. It's a perfect day to stay inside where it's toasty warm. The perfect day to start on some Christmas decorating. I only have a couple of hours before work, but we'll see what I can get accomplished.

Our "New" Old House

Hello friends. I thought I'd show you some pics of our new home. My hubby and I closed on our dream home two weeks ago and we've been working on it ever since. It is an old log and stone home. She has beautiful bones, but needs quite a bit of work. We are trying to get a bunch of things done before moving in. So...here area a couple of pics for you. 

Living room...need to find a wood burning stove.

 Other side of the living room. Stairs go to the master bedroom.

 Kitchen...already peeled the wallpaper off the walls. I'm not a huge fan of the cabinets, but they are staying for now.
 

Log walls..these are exposed in the hall, the bathroom, and my sewing room.
 

 Just a peek at some of the beautiful wall paper that will be coming down.

February Finish

Good Thursday Morning. Wow...look at me...posting two days in a row. Just wanted to show you my February Finish. I really shouldn't count this as a finish because it's a piece of an antique quilt, but I did put a binding on it. So...technically it's a finish. It's about the only thing I got done this month :(

Today is closing day on our new home, so it will be a busy day. I'll post a few pics soon.

My New Hooked Rug

Good Morning. I know I've been absent again for quite a while. I have the best intentions to post, but something always seems to come up. Between working, working with my son on his Eagle Scout Project, and all the things that come with buying a new home, I am just tired all the time. So...now you know the condensed version of what I've been up to recently.

I just had to show you what I just bought from a sweet blogger. Robin from Bird in the Hand Primitives created this beauty and I just had to have it. I wish I could show you where it is going, but to tell the truth...it went right back into a box. I can't wait to bring it out again when we get into our new home. If you don't know Robin...make sure to check out her blog. She creates some wonderful goodies, including patterns. She is also very generous & gives away a lot of her patterns as freebies.

Today's Project

Good morning.

I spent the last couple of days pulling wools and cutting out pieces for my newest project. Sorry for the sideways picture...I can't get it to flip. I'll be stitching this one down for a while. A nice wooly project to keep me warm for the next few days (hopefully not weeks).

This warm wooly project will be heading to a friends home when it is finished. I sure hope she likes it.

First Finish of the Year

 I finished my brown and pink quilt and was going to show you today, but I have lost the ability to post pics on my blog. Might be a while until I figure it out. I'm not very computer savvy. Any help would be appreciated!!

2013 Goals

 

I have decided to set some goals for myself in this New Year. I have decided that I would like to take some time to do some things for me. One of those goals is to spend more time with family and friends just enjoying their company. I did just that today....I went to lunch with a girlfriend. We had a wonderful time. It was so nice to just sit and talk and enjoy a wonderful meal.

 

Another goal set is to completely finish at least one quilted project a month. I have so many projects that they could keep me busy for the rest of my life. I am not kidding...and bad girl that I am...I keep on adding to the pile.

 

So today I worked on a few of my projects. I decided to start with a super simple one to get me motivated. A simple little quilt made up of 9 four patch blocks and a border. Here are the cut squares all ready to go.

 

 

 

My nine completed 4 patch blocks.

The 9 blocks all sewn together....

And the finished top with the border added.

 

I got it quilted and the binding sewn on. I just need to hand sew the binding to the back of the quilt and it will be finished. I'm planning on completing it tonight.

 

I also quilted another small quilt that I had sitting around and quilted 2 little mini quilts. These all need bindings yet, but I feel I accomplished quite a bit today. Now to just keep going.

 

I have also set a couple of other personal & professional goals for the year, but won't bore you with those.

Merriment Chain Day 25...The End
